Dental Bridges Can (Re)Build Smiles

Dental Crowns & Bridges 2 Midlothian, VA Dentist | Biggers Family Dentistry

When you lose teeth, you know that something isn’t right with your smile. It’s hard to hide a gap between your teeth, after all.

This may affect you in ways you don’t expect. You may notice that it’s become more difficult to bite and chew certain foods. You also may notice that you feel more self-conscious when meeting people in professional and personal settings.

As a result, you may start avoiding certain situations, or you may try to avoid smiling so other people don’t notice your missing teeth. Unfortunately, this could lead someone to have a mistaken impression about you.

Our team at Biggers Family Dentistry wants to help. We want you to be able to eat what you want, smile with confidence, and feel comfortable sharing your smile with the people around you.

We can create a dental bridge at our dentist office in Midlothian, VA, just for you. Call 804-621-2199 or contact us online to request an appointment .

What Is Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a restorative service that fills the gap in your smile.

Dental bridges are created by combined multiple dental crowns together. Our bridges are made with the same materials as our CEREC dental crowns. This means they are built to last and they are created with materials that look and feel like natural teeth.

Building your dental bridge is simpler because of our CEREC system. We can make a digital scan of your teeth. This scan helps us design a dental bridge that is designed to fit with the rest of your smile.

With CEREC, we can usually make your dental bridge in a single visit. This means few trips to the dentist for you. It also means you can enjoy your dental bridge sooner.

How Dental Bridges Work

To understand how a traditional bridge works, you first need to understand how a dental crown is made.

In order to place a dental crown on a tooth, the dentist first reshapes a tooth. This forms an abutment, which is where your crown will be bonded to your tooth.

With a dental bridge, we will be bonding two crowns to two teeth. This will create the support for your bridge. These abutment crowns are the crowns on the outside of your dental bridge. (The crown or crowns between them fill the gap created by your missing tooth.)

When your dental bridge is attached to your teeth, your smile will look whole again. You also will be able to bite and chew with your bridge just like you can with your remaining natural teeth.

Dental Implants And Bridges

If you are missing multiple teeth, then a traditional bridge may not be the best option. We also can use dental implants to provide support for your dental bridge.

Implants were created to replace the roots of missing teeth. Like roots, dental implants are embedded in your jawbone. This helps to keep the implants secure and stable.

Each implant has an abutment on its exposed end. For a single tooth replacement, this could be used to hold a dental crown in place. If you are replacing multiple teeth, however, we can use multiple implants to secure your dental bridge in place.

The end result is a stable set of replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like you want.

What Kind Of Dental Bridge Is Right For You?

This can depend on a variety of factors. The number of teeth that need to be replaced, the condition of neighboring teeth, and the location of your missing teeth could affect your decision.

Dr. Biggers will be happy to examine your mouth and jaw. Then he can advise you on your options. We are here to help you make the right decision for yourself.

We can answer any questions you may have about the bridge or about the procedure for getting them.
