Four Restorative Services

Some people don’t think about restorative dentistry until they have major problems like multiple lost teeth. It doesn’t have to be that way.

By taking action early, you can restore teeth that have problems, and you just might be saving the rest of your smile at the same time. Keep that in mind as we discuss four kinds of restorative services:

➜ 1. Dental Fillings

If you’ve ever had a cavity, then you may already have a dental filling. If you’ve never had a cavity, keep up the good work. Just remember that more than 90 percent of Americans will have at least one cavity in their lives.

If you should ever need a filling — or need your current filling replaced — we offer tooth-colored fillings at our office. These are made of a composite resin. After your tooth decay or your old filling is removed, we’ll prepare your tooth for the resin.

When it’s put in place, most people won’t know which tooth has the filling. That’s how closely it will blend in with your tooth.

➜ 2. Same-Day Dental Crowns

Dental crowns can serve two purposes. They can be used to repair teeth that are damaged, discolored, and decayed. They also can be placed on a dental implant to replace a missing tooth.

A dental crown may be necessary if your tooth decay has damaged so much of your teeth that a filling is no longer an option. In this case, we would remove the decay and reshape your tooth so the dental crown can be attached.

Our crowns are made with materials that look like your natural teeth and are strong so you can bite and chew as well as you could with your real tooth. And since we can make your crown in our office, you don’t have to make a second appointment to finish the process.

The process for getting a dental crown for broken teeth, cracked teeth, and discolored teeth is similar. We remove the parts of your teeth that have been affected and bond the crown in position when it’s ready.

For a missing tooth, we can place a dental implant in your jaw (to replace the root of you missing tooth). Then we can attach the dental crown to give you a complete tooth replacement.

➜ 3. Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are a great way to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth at the same time. These bridges are formed by fusing dental crowns together.

A traditional bridge may be used to replace a single tooth. To secure this kind of bridge in place, we would reshape the teeth in each side of your missing tooth much like we would for a dental crown. When the bridge is bonded to those teeth, your smile looks whole again.

For multiple missing teeth, an implant-supported bridge might be a better option. One or more implants may be used to secure this bridge.

➜ 4. Dentures

An estimated 35 million people are missing at least one row of teeth. Most of them have some kind of dentures .

At Biggers Family Dentistry, you can get traditional dentures. These rest outside your gums. They improve the appearance of your smile, and they can help you to eat some foods.

Or if you would like more security and stability, we recommend implant-supported dentures. This is the closest thing to a third set of teeth that you can get in modern dentistry. A series of dental implants can provide a firm foundation to support your dentures and keep them from sliding around.

With implant-supported dentures, you can eat practically as well as someone who still has all their teeth, too.
